Meet the new love of my life, Emerson Michelle. I can’t say enough about how sweet this little girl is! She is my little angel!
Emerson was born on July 13, weighing 8 pounds 7.5 ounces and 21 inches long. If her birth is any indication, this girl is going to be very cooperative and easy going!! I was scheduled for induction on the 13, so Freddy, my mom and I headed into the hospital bright and early at 6:00 am. I got checked in and hooked up to all my medicine and IV by about 8:00. My doctor came in and checked me and I was about 4 cm at 9:30 (I had been 3 cm for almost a week by then). He then broke my water and increased my Pitocin, and said he would come and check on me in about 2 hours. The contractions really weren’t all that bad, but they were starting to get closer together, so I decided to go ahead and get the epidural. I wanted to get it before it got too bad and those things take a while to get the Dr. and everything else it entails.
After the epidural, Freddy decided to be a comedian and make me laugh for about 30 minutes straight. I was laughing so hard I couldn’t breathe, and the laughing was making my contractions go off the charts. Luckily, I had the epidural so I couldn’t feel anything. I think my nurse thought we were crazy, she said she had never had a patient laugh while they were in labor. I love my husband!
Anyway, at about 11:30 my Dr. came to check my progress and I was only 5 cm, and she was at a –2 station (which is high up in the pelvis). Needless to say, I thought it would be a while before she was here. My mom had gone to look at the babies because the room was so cold, and she wanted to burn a little time. While she was gone, I told Freddy that I thought my epidural was wearing off. You see, when the Dr. administered the epidural, he hit a nerve and it shot down my right leg. That was where I was feeling everything, so I thought I was going to have to get another epidural. So I called the nurse.
When the nurse came in, I told her what I was feeling and she suggested that she do a catheter. She thought what I was feeling was a full bladder. When she had a little difficulty administering the catheter she decided to check me. That was when she said the baby’s head was right there. So to put this all in perspective, the was about 12:15! That was 45 minutes since I was at 5 cm and a –2 station. I was now 10 cm and a +2 station! She called my Dr. and he came right away. He checked everything out and told me to do a few practice pushes and he would be back after checking on another patient.
After one “practice push” my nurse told me to stop pushing and she immediately called my Dr. He came rushing in, they set everything up, I pushed twice through two contractions and Emerson was born!! It was so incredible and so different from Ansley’s birth. I was so calm and had a peace over me. I knew my sister was there with me because I could feel her presence. The amount of pure bliss that you have when your child is born is indescribable. I love this little girl so so much!!
What a great story! I'm so glad it went well. I don't know what Freddy was saying, but God bless him for that! (And he should send a memo out to all men whose wives are expecting) That must have been some good laughing medicine! Congratulations!!
