Let’s be honest, I’m no Ansel Adams.  While I take pictures with my point and shoot, they are not that great.  They are great for the memories, but not for the walls. So, about a week after Emerson was born, my friend Jessica(who is a professional) came to capture some great pictures of the girls. 

Jessica has captured just about every major life event for Freddy and I over the last 4 years: engagement, wedding, the birth of Ansley and now Emerson.  She is such a dear friend and so sublimely talented! Here are a few of my favorites from our day.

happy one month, emerson!

Emerson was actually one month old on the 13th, but I am a little late. I can’t believe how much she has grown this month. She is starting to look more like a cute chubby baby and less like a scrawny newborn. The many faces of Emerson:



Here is what you have been up to this month:

• I’m not quite sure how much you weigh, but my best guess would be around 10 pounds.
• You are in a size 1 diaper, and wear some 0-3 months clothing.
• You are starting to get on a good eat/wake/sleep cycle and are on about a 2.5 to 3 hour schedule.
• Breastfeeding is going really well, you are such a great eater.  Sometimes I can’t keep up with you!
• You are really starting to sleep great! You have been going for about 5 hours at night for about the last week. (I hope I don’t jinx myself by saying this).
• You are having a little trouble with reflux, just like your big sister. Dr. Jones has started you on Zantac so we will see how you do on it.
• You go to the cardiologist this week to make sure that your heart murmur is nothing major.  Dr. Jones seems to think it will be something you will grow out of, because you are growing so well.
• You are starting to smile and it makes my heart explode with happiness every time I see it.
• You have been cooing a lot too!
• Your daddy makes fun of me because I say you are so sweet about 50 times a day, but it is so true!! You are the sweetest baby!
• You are such a cuddle bug, you love to be held. 
• You and your sister are starting to get along.  She is really interested in you and wants to know what you are up to.  She also likes to hold you.

Sweet girl, I am so in love with you and so glad you are finally here. We love you so so much and our family feels so complete now that you are a part of it!!

it’s my party and I’ll cry if I want to….

Well, we had grand plans yesterday to celebrate Ansley’s birthday.  They included pizza and cake and pools and family, but our poor baby didn’t get the memo and she woke up sick with a fever. After taking her temp and discovering it was 102, I decided to give my family fair warning to “come at their own risk”. Understandably so, a lot of them decided against it so we had a much more “intimate” affair yesterday.  It was still lovely, even though the birthday girl wasn’t her usual cheery self. 

I will say that the girl is spoiled rotten! It looked like Santa came to our house. We are so incredibly blessed to have so many people who love us and our little girl! We told her she had to wait until Gigi came to open presents, so the second she walked in she said, “yay presents!”  By looking at her presents you will discover a few things: the girl loves shoes, princesses, coloring, movies and anything girly!! She has been having a ball playing with all of her gifts, and I think they might have done the trick in getting her better!
